Homework
Routines and Procedures
Homework Policy and Student Assignment Books:
Students are responsible for copying homework assignments in their Student
Assignment Books (SAB) on a daily basis. Should your child misplace the
assignment book, you will need to replace it as soon as possible. I will
initial the assignments to ensure that the work has been copied properly and I
ask that parents initial or sign the book nightly. The prompt return of homework
builds responsibility in your child. If a student turns in homework
late, then he/she receives a letter grade lower than what would have been earned
if the work had been turned in on time, except in the case of an absence from
school. If at the end of the next school day the work is not turned in,
the resulting grade will be an "F." Students in my class should spend no
more than 60 minutes of homework a night, which includes reading for at least 15
minutes.
Thursday Folders:
Thursday folders are sent home each Thursday with completed worked and notes
from the head office enclosed. Please review these papers and KEEP
THEM. There is a place on the front of the folder for your signature and
the date. Return these folders on Friday.
Reading Logs:
Each night's homework, with the exception of Friday, will include at least 15
minutes of reading. After your child reads for 15 minutes, they are to
record the pages they read and the title of what they read in their
Reading Log. Your child should RETELL to you what he/she read.
Parents should critique the retell in the space provided in the Reading
Log. Reading Logs are due every Friday and should include a parent's
signature.
Interim Reports:
Interim Reports are issued half way through each
quarter. Along with the interim, you will find a list of all assignments
that your child was given and the grade that he/she earned on each
assignment. Please keep the assignment list and return the interim back to
school signed as soon as possible.
Report Cards:
Report cards are sent home
four times a year, once every quarter.
Please check carefully to see whether or not a conference has been requested
from me. If you would like to request a conference, be sure to check the
appropriate box on the back of the report card.
Grading
Scale:
A = 94+
B = 86 - 93
C = 78 - 85
D = 70 - 77
F = < 69
