Meet Mrs. Mitchell

Meet Mrs. Mitchell

My name is Helen Mitchell and I am a 5th grade teacher at Lee Hill Elementary School in Spotsylvania, Virginia. My husband, Bob, is a senior systems engineer for Northrup Grumman at Fort Belvoir. I have two children, Rachel and Andrew. Rachel is in 8th grade and Andrew is in 7th grade this year. My stepson, Robert, graduated from Virginia Tech in 2005. After working in California for Intel for a couple of years, he now attends MIT to earn his Masters and Ph.D. My stepdaughter, Jenny, graduated from West Virginia University in 2007 and she is working for RTI in North Carolina.

This year will mark my 14th year of teaching and my 12th year teaching 5th grade at Lee Hill. I received my BS in Elementary Education in 1990 from Texas Wesleyan University. I did quite a bit of traveling shortly after college to Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. In 1998, I moved from Fort Worth, Texas to Spotsylvania, Virginia and I love it here! I earned my Masters degree in Education with an emphasis in Integrating Technology in the Classroom from Walden University in 2007.

I was born in Brownwood, Texas and grew up with five sisters and one brother. My father is a retired Methodist minister and my mother is a retired registered nurse. They live in Texas as well as my brother and three of my sisters. I have a sister in Montana and one in Louisiana.

Some of my hobbies include scrapbooking, cross-stitching, and reading. However, I do not have much time to sit and do those things. We also have two cats, three dogs, two guinea pigs, and a 90 gallon aquarium.

I am looking forward to another fun and exciting year of learning. Our class mascot is a bald eagle named Patriot and we will have several activities revolving around him. Feel free to contact me by phone at school or by e-mail.
